Google Docs introduced a real interactive checklist feature back in June, 2016.

It was pretty gimmicky before that, you had to do it all manually.

Actually? I didn’t know that was a thing.

How do you do it?

Place your cursor where you want to add the checklist.

Then, click on the three dots in the top right corner.

Select the “Checklists“ icon from the dropdown menu.

You’ll see that you can add any text in the checklist.

Press enter to add more items to the list.

When you check the items, There are two modes:

One will strikethrough the checked item …

And the other will just check the box.
